Canary Capital Files ETF Application for Trump Coin

The move to launch an ETF for a Trump-linked memecoin has reignited debate in both financial and political circles.

U.S.-based Canary Capital Group has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to list and trade the Trump Coin ETF, offering investors a way to gain exposure to the token through traditional brokerage accounts instead of buying it directly.

According to the filing, the ETF would reduce the risks associated with directly holding the token while still granting access to the Trump Coin market. Similar applications have recently been submitted by Tuttle Capital and the Osprey Funds–Rex Shares partnership. Notably, both Donald Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump launched their own memecoin projects shortly after the presidential inauguration, a move criticized by Democrats for potential conflicts of interest.

The timing of the filing is significant, as the SEC has recently taken a more favorable stance toward crypto ETFs. The regulator is currently reviewing proposals tied to Solana (SOL) and Dogecoin (DOGE), and has clarified that most staking-related products do not fall under securities law. Furthermore, the SEC’s February statement that memecoins are not considered securities could accelerate the approval process for the Trump Coin ETF.
