During Apple's September 9 “Glowtime” event, deepfake images of Apple CEO Tim Cook were used in fake crypto scam YouTube streams. The fake Tim Cook, created by artificial intelligence, attempted to trick viewers with the promise of doubling Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. These broadcasts on a fake “Apple US” YouTube channel received hundreds of thousands of views via bots. The YouTube team removed the fake videos and closed the accounts, but has yet to issue an official statement.
Recently, crypto fraud attempts using deepfake videos have been on the rise. Fake images of Elon Musk were previously used in similar scams. It is emphasized that such artificial intelligence-based scams have become a major concern, especially in the crypto world.
