Historic Agreement Between Trump and Xi: A New Era in US-China Relations

U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have announced a series of “historic trade agreements” following their high-level meeting, marking a potential turning point in U.S.–China economic relations.

During the final leg of his Asia tour, Trump said China had agreed to purchase large quantities of U.S. agricultural and energy products, while pledging to continue free trade in rare earths and critical minerals and to cooperate with Washington to curb fentanyl exports. “Our farmers will be very happy — they should buy more land and tractors,” Trump said, highlighting the deal’s benefits for U.S. agriculture.

Trump revealed that China had begun talks to buy oil and natural gas from Alaska, adding that Beijing’s commitment to maintaining open supply chains for strategic materials was a positive signal for global markets. Analysts noted that continued free trade in rare earths and magnets would be a key development for both the tech and defense industries.

Thanking leaders of Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Vietnam for their hospitality, Trump said, “Our country is once again strong, respected, and admired. The best is yet to come.” Observers view the meeting as a potential step toward a reset in U.S.–China relations, with implications for trade, commodities, and global diplomacy.
