ETF filings in the crypto market continue to accelerate, and 21Shares’ latest application stands out with its staking feature.
Swiss-based 21Shares has submitted an S-1 registration to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) seeking approval for a spot ETF tied to Sei. A key detail in the filing is the plan to stake a portion of the SEI tokens held by the fund and distribute the resulting rewards to investors. This approach aims to offer investors not only direct price exposure but also staking yields.
The SEC, however, has so far taken a cautious stance. The regulator recently delayed similar staking-related requests from Grayscale, BlackRock, and 21Shares for Ethereum spot ETFs. Still, in May, the SEC stated that some staking activities do not fall under securities rules, a comment that was interpreted as a potential green light for staking ETFs.
Alongside Sei, the SEC is reviewing ETF applications for several altcoins, including Litecoin, Solana, Dogecoin, and XRP. With 21Shares’ filing added to the mix, the market is closely watching whether staking ETFs will finally gain approval—a development that could mark the beginning of a new era in crypto investing.
