The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has launched a significant new initiative enabling spot crypto asset contracts to be traded on registered futures exchanges (DCM).
In an announcement on Monday, CFTC Acting Chair Caroline Pham invited stakeholders and the public to provide feedback and suggestions by August 18, aiming to clarify regulatory guidelines for spot crypto contracts. This move seeks to address ongoing uncertainties around digital asset classification and strengthen the CFTC’s regulatory role in crypto markets.
Marking the initial phase of the "Crypto Sprint" initiative, which responds to last week's White House recommendations on digital assets, this step highlights growing coordination between the CFTC and SEC. Simultaneously, the SEC continues advancing its parallel project, which aims to modernize securities regulations to support a blockchain-based financial system.
