Bitcoin Climbs to $93,000 as Rally Tied to Rising Risk Appetite

As Bitcoin surged to as high as $93,000 amid growing geopolitical uncertainty, analysts say the move reflects increased risk appetite rather than fears of a global economic shock.

The crypto market entered 2026 with strong momentum as the United States became directly involved in political developments in Venezuela. Investors and economists speaking to Reuters noted that the detention of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. authorities marked a significant geopolitical escalation, but one unlikely to trigger immediate disruption in global markets. Against this backdrop, risk assets including cryptocurrencies attracted renewed interest.

During Asian trading hours, Bitcoin rose to the $93,000 level before stabilizing around $92,000. The asset posted gains of over 1 percent on a daily basis and more than 4 percent over the past week. Ethereum climbed toward $3,150, bringing its weekly increase close to 7 percent. Other major crypto assets also recorded weekly gains ranging from 8 to 10 percent.

Liquidations in derivatives markets played a key role in pushing prices higher. Roughly $180 million in positions were liquidated over the past 24 hours, with short positions accounting for the majority. On the geopolitical front, comments from Donald Trump regarding Venezuela and its oil resources added to uncertainty. Analysts suggest crypto investors view such headlines less as systemic macro risks and more as volatility catalysts, a dynamic that can lead to sharp price movements when market liquidity is relatively thin.
