Circle’s $3 Billion Arc Move: BlackRock-Backed Network Emerges as Ethereum Rival

One of the crypto industry’s largest stablecoin companies, Circle, is preparing to redefine its position in the market through its new blockchain project called Arc. While the company previously expanded mainly through USDC, it is now targeting a much broader role in digital finance infrastructure. Following a $222 million private funding round backed by BlackRock, a16z crypto, and ARK Invest, Arc’s valuation has reportedly climbed to nearly $3 billion.

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire described Arc as an “economic operating system,” emphasizing that the network was specifically designed to meet the security, speed, and compliance demands of banks and large financial institutions. With features such as fast transaction finality and configurable privacy, Arc aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology.

According to analysts, Arc could become a second major growth engine for Circle while also significantly expanding USDC adoption. However, the launch also positions Circle as a direct competitor to major blockchain ecosystems such as Ethereum (ETH) and Coinbase’s Base network. Industry observers note that the project’s true success will become clearer after the mainnet launch planned for this summer, when real transaction activity begins to emerge.
