US President Donald Trump is preparing to appoint a figure with blockchain experience to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). According to reports, Trump’s new appointee will be Jonathan Gould, who previously served as the chief legal officer at blockchain firm Bitfury.
Gould has prior experience at the OCC, having worked as senior deputy comptroller and chief counsel. With his expertise in the crypto market and regulatory framework, he is expected to play a significant role in the OCC's collaboration with Congress on stablecoin regulations and market structure efforts.
This appointment is seen as part of Trump’s plan to merge the OCC with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) under the umbrella of the US Treasury Department.
Donald Trump has previously appointed notable figures from the crypto industry to key positions. Recently, it was announced that Brian Quintenz, known for his crypto-friendly stance, is being considered to lead the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Gould’s appointment could pave the way for reshaping regulations regarding crypto adoption in the banking sector.
