Ethereum developers will launch a Public Testnet for the Shanghai Upgrade by the end of February. The developers won’t consider adding the Ethereum Virtual Machine Object Format (EOF), a proposed improvement in the blockchain's EVM programming environment, as it may delay the Shanghai Upgrade, which will focus on ETH withdrawals.
Ethereum core developers have set March 2023 as a tentative target for the Shanghai Upgrade (EIP 4895), which will enable validator staking withdrawals, a feature that is currently lacking in the network. The developers are also considering a second Hard Fork after Shanghai that will launch "Proto-danksharding", or EIP 4844, an upgrade scheduled for the third quarter of 2023 that will further increase the network's capacity to handle more transactions.
