FIFA to Launch Its Own Blockchain on Avalanche Network!

FIFA, the global governing body of football, is expanding its Web3 ambitions by announcing plans to build its own dedicated blockchain using the Avalanche network.

This move follows its earlier foray into NFTs with a collection launched on the Algorand blockchain ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The new blockchain, dubbed FIFA Blockchain, will leverage Avalanche’s customizable Layer-1 infrastructure, which recently received a major upgrade through the Avalanche9000 update. This update enables faster, more secure, and flexible blockchain development, making it well-suited for enterprise-grade applications. FIFA’s decision to adopt Avalanche signals strong institutional confidence in the network’s capabilities.

While the NFT market has cooled significantly following the crypto winter, FIFA’s continued investment in blockchain technology underscores the enduring institutional interest in Web3 infrastructure. Although specific projects beyond NFTs have not yet been revealed, the move hints at broader digital initiatives. Ava Labs’ Head of Business Development, John Nahas, noted that FIFA’s choice reflects Avalanche’s ability to support large-scale global applications.
