Harvard University Reduced Its Bitcoin Position, However Made Its First Investment in Ethereum

Harvard University’s investment arm, Harvard Management Company, disclosed in its fourth-quarter 2025 13F filing that it adjusted its digital asset exposure. The fund trimmed its stake in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust while opening a new position in the iShares Ethereum Trust during the same period.

According to the filing, Harvard held 5.35 million IBIT shares at year-end, valued at approximately $265.8 million. The fund previously owned 6.81 million shares, meaning it sold around 1.48 million shares and reduced its Bitcoin ETF exposure by 21%. At the same time, it acquired 3.87 million shares of IETH, establishing an $86.8 million position in an Ethereum ETF for the first time.

Bitcoin had surged to $126,000 in October 2025 before declining to $88,429 by year-end, while Ethereum lost roughly 28% over the same period. Despite the reduction, Bitcoin remained Harvard’s largest publicly disclosed holding. The university’s combined $352.6 million exposure to Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs underscores continued institutional engagement with digital assets.
