Iran has restricted local cryptocurrency exchanges' operating hours following a significant cyberattack on its largest platform.
The Central Bank of Iran limited crypto exchange activities between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM. This move comes shortly after a massive cyberattack targeting Nobitex, the country's largest crypto exchange, resulted in losses exceeding $90 million. The central bank aims to mitigate cyber threats by narrowing trading hours.
The pro-Israel hacking group Gonjeshke Darande, responsible for the attack, reportedly destroyed the stolen crypto funds instead of profiting, indicating the assault was politically motivated and specifically targeted Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Experts note that although limiting trading hours won't eliminate cyber threats completely, it clearly demonstrates Iran’s determination to tighten control over the crypto sector.ContentEN
