Japan Credit Bureau (JCB), an analog of international payment systems such as Visa or Mastercard, has announced the start of infrastructure testing for a central bank digital currency (CBDC).
The project is thought to prepare the payment platform for a national CBDC, which is currently being tested by the Bank of Japan (BoJ).
It was stated that JCB aims to adjust its existing credit card infrastructure for CBDC payments. On the other hand, France-based facial recognition technology provider IDEMIA and Malaysian Softspace will collaborate with JCB in the development of the platform.
It was learned that the platform will consist of three main elements: a touch payment solution, the issuance and provision of plastic cards for CBDC, and a simulation of the working CBDC environment
