Japan-based tech giant Metaplanet has purchased an additional 797 Bitcoin (BTC) worth approximately $96 million, bringing its total holdings to 16,352 BTC.
Speaking to the Financial Times, CEO Simon Gerovich explained that Metaplanet aims to use its Bitcoin holdings as collateral to acquire cash-generating businesses in the digital financial services sector. This strategy closely mirrors that of major U.S. firms, which leverage Bitcoin investments to finance strategic corporate acquisitions.
Metaplanet funds its Bitcoin acquisitions through zero-interest bonds, stock options, and capital from U.S. markets, aiming to strengthen its crypto treasury through a planned $5 billion capital injection into its Florida-based subsidiary. The company's substantial Bitcoin holdings, currently the largest outside North America, have made it a closely watched player in the cryptocurrency market.
