Japan-based Metaplanet has announced plans to issue 385 million new shares, raising $1.4 billion to accelerate its Bitcoin acquisition strategy.
Approved by the board of directors in late August, the international offering will see shares priced at 553 yen (around $3.75) each. Initially planning to issue 180 million shares, the company doubled the figure to 385 million due to strong investor demand.
According to Metaplanet, roughly $1.2 billion of the proceeds will go directly toward Bitcoin purchases, while the rest will support Bitcoin-related income-generating businesses. The company, which already holds over 20,000 BTC, also generates revenue through Bitcoin options trading — bringing in approximately $12.9 million during Q2 2025 alone.
Meanwhile, strategic investor support has emerged as well. Nakamoto, a subsidiary of KindlyMD led by former Trump advisor David Bailey, announced plans to invest up to $30 million in the share sale. This marks Nakamoto’s largest investment to date and its first in an Asia-based company pursuing a Bitcoin treasury strategy. Recently, Metaplanet added $15 million worth of Bitcoin to lift its reserves to 20,136 BTC, ranking it the sixth-largest public company Bitcoin holder worldwide.
