US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) lawyers have objected to the crypto exchange's wide-ranging document requests. The documents, filed with the court on Monday, mark the latest step in an ongoing legal battle between the SEC and the exchange. The crypto exchange is seeking documents it can use in its defense, specifically requesting crypto-related communications from SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and other documents. The SEC has asked the court to reject the requests, arguing that they are "clearly improper".
In court, Judge Katherine Polk Failla expressed concern about the breadth of documents requested by the crypto exchange. In particular, she expressed surprise at the requests for Gensler's personal communications from the period before he joined the SEC. Failla asked the parties to file a motion to compel to resolve the discovery dispute. In response, the crypto exchange filed its motion to compel on July 23, narrowing its demands somewhat.
