Japan-based investment firm Metaplanet has boosted its Bitcoin holdings following a massive capital raise, overtaking Tesla in total Bitcoin reserves.
Metaplanet, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, successfully completed a $515 million capital raise as part of its ambitious "555 Million Plan." Major partner EVO Fund contributed significantly by exercising rights to purchase 540,000 shares, resulting in the issuance of 54 million new shares. Immediately afterward, the company leveraged this capital to accelerate its Bitcoin acquisition strategy.
Following the raise, Metaplanet swiftly acquired approximately $133 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC), adding 1,234 BTC to its holdings. This purchase elevated the company's total Bitcoin reserve to 12,345 BTC—approximately $1.3 billion—allowing it to surpass electric vehicle giant Tesla (11,509 BTC) and become the seventh-largest publicly listed Bitcoin holder globally.
Metaplanet's strategic plan involves ambitious future targets: reaching 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025, increasing holdings to 100,000 BTC in 2026, and ultimately aiming for 210,000 BTC—roughly 1% of Bitcoin's total supply—by 2027. Achieving this would make Metaplanet only the second company ever, after MicroStrategy, to control approximately 1% of Bitcoin’s supply.
