Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Reserves, Surpassing Coinbase

Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet has expanded its Bitcoin reserves to 11,111 BTC following a new $118 million purchase, marking another step toward its ambitious global accumulation goals.

Metaplanet announced Monday during Asian trading hours that it acquired an additional 1,111 Bitcoins, increasing its total holdings to 11,111 BTC. CEO Simon Gerovich revealed the average purchase price for this latest batch was $105,946, bringing the company's total Bitcoin investment cost to approximately $1.07 billion. With this acquisition, Metaplanet surpassed Coinbase to become the ninth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.

The company recently revised its targets upward, aiming for 100,000 BTC by 2026 and a total of 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027—equivalent to approximately 1% of the total Bitcoin supply. To achieve these ambitious goals, Metaplanet is expected to maintain aggressive funding and investment strategies over the next two years.

Although the latest acquisition triggered a brief drop in its stock price, Metaplanet shares remain significantly strong, up by approximately 393% since the beginning of the year.
