What is the Metaverse?
Metaverse presents a universe containing multiple technologies that offer augmented virtual reality to its users. Metaverse, is beyond the real world we live in which is a combination of the words "Meta" meaning beyond and "Universe". Metaverse, a technology that has not yet been fully implemented, but has started to receive investment of over one million dollars thanks to the potential it contains.
What Will Metaverse Offer?
The metaverse was first used by Neal Stephenson in the sci-fi novel "Snow Crash" published in 1992. In the novel, the Metaverse is presented as the ultimate version of the Internet. The Metaverse of today is very similar to its counterpart in the novel.
Metaverse is growing its ecosystem day by day thanks to the projects in it. Large companies that want to take part in the ecosystem invest in Metaverse, a technology that has not yet been fully implemented. Perhaps the first among these companies is Meta, formerly Facebook. Meta promises a virtual world where digital avatars connect through work, travel or entertainment using virtual reality.
As a software giant Microsoft, develops mixed and augmented reality (XR) applications with the Microsoft Mesh platform which combines the real world with augmented reality and virtual reality. The company's 2022 plans include developing holograms and virtual avatars for the Microsoft Teams application. Game company Epic Games, which includes famous games such as Fortnite, continues to invest in Metaverse projects. Among the projects, there are many events such as concerts and movies of famous names such as Ariana Grande and Travis Scott that will take place on Metaverse.
On the other hand, Metaverse-based GameFi projects are increasing their numbers day by day by collecting large funds, it has already created its own industry thanks to the augmented reality that Metaverse will provide.
We also know that land sales are made for regions in the Metaverse universe and millions of dollars are paid for these plots.
When Will the Metaverse Come to Life?
CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg states that Metaverse will be widely used in 5 to 10 years. In addition, many technologies that will take place in the Metaverse are already in today's world. Ultra-fast broadband speeds, virtual reality headsets, and always-on online worlds are not accessible to everyone, but they work.
Is the Metaverse Our Future?
The Metaverse universe, where we can experience a world we are familiar with from science fiction movies in real life, offers us great clues about the technology of the future. In addition to all these, the ecosystem which grows in a decentralized way without being tied to a monopoly, includes a wide variety of sectors. Events like meetings, fashion shows, and concerts on the Metaverse are likely to be just the tip of the iceberg. Considering that there are no real world rules in the metaverse universe, it is assumed that the possibilities will be unlimited to that extent. Many famous brands started to open their virtual stores in Metaverse. Many technology companies will produce digital reflections of their vehicles in the metaverse and sell them. Fashion giants have already started to sell NFTs of textile products as NFTs in the Metaverse. Many different sectors take their place in the Metaverse and shape the digital world of the future.
