MicroStrategy Considers Selling Bitcoin for the First Time Amid 818K BTC Holdings

The cryptocurrency market started the week with strong momentum. Bitcoin (BTC) moved above the $82,000 level during Asian trading hours, posting a weekly gain of 6.7%. Rising optimism around artificial intelligence stocks and easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East boosted investor appetite for risk assets.

The rally was not limited to Bitcoin alone. Solana (SOL) surpassed $87, while Dogecoin (DOGE) recorded weekly gains of more than 14%. Ethereum (ETH), however, underperformed compared to other major cryptocurrencies due to continued spot ETF outflows.

Despite the positive market environment, the biggest institutional Bitcoin holder, MicroStrategy, made headlines with an unexpected statement. Michael Saylor said the company could sell a portion of its Bitcoin holdings to meet dividend payments and financial obligations. The firm currently holds 818,334 BTC at an average purchase price of $75,537 and has never sold Bitcoin before.
