New Hampshire has become the first U.S. state to officially allow the inclusion of digital assets in state funds.
On May 6, 2025, Governor Kelly Ayotte signed HB 302, which grants the state treasury the authority to invest in digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), which currently meets the required market value threshold. The law allows the state to invest up to 5% of its public funds in digital assets.
With this move, New Hampshire sets a precedent for other states to follow, positioning itself as a leader in digital asset investments. The law not only allows investments in Bitcoin but also in precious metals, diversifying the state's funds and providing protection against inflation.
Arizona and Florida had previously attempted similar laws but were unsuccessful, making New Hampshire a trailblazer in this area.
