NYSE Moves Toward Tokenization: A New Crypto Era for Stocks Begins

As one of the world’s largest exchanges, NYSE has submitted a proposed rule change to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to allow eligible assets to be traded in tokenized form. This step is seen as a major milestone in the digital transformation of financial markets and could accelerate the integration of blockchain-based assets into traditional systems.

Under the proposal, a three-year pilot program will be conducted by the Depository Trust Company (DTC). During this period, tokenized securities will carry the same rights and priorities as their traditional counterparts, while investors will be able to access them through familiar order book systems, ensuring a seamless transition.

According to the framework, tokenized assets will share the same CUSIP identifiers and symbols as traditional stocks. Clearing and settlement will continue to follow the standard T+1 cycle via DTC. This initiative highlights NYSE’s effort to combine regulatory compliance with technological innovation, potentially reshaping how financial assets are issued, traded, and stored in the future.
