Russia Plans to Create a New Investment Fund with Seized Crypto Assets

Legal activists in Russia are proposing the creation of a fund composed of cryptocurrencies seized from criminal investigations.

Evgeny Masharov, a member of the Russian Civic Chamber, announced that the fund would generate income for the government, and the proceeds would be directed toward social projects. Masharov also mentioned that the fund could contribute to environmental and educational initiatives.

This proposal has gained more attention as Russian officials have introduced a new bill that would recognize cryptocurrencies as assets in criminal proceedings. On March 19, Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, announced that the draft bill had been submitted to the government.

Masharov expressed confidence that the value of the seized crypto assets would increase significantly over time, highlighting the potential usefulness of this fund for the state. However, it is noted that Russia's current laws do not provide a clear framework for the distribution of seized cryptocurrencies.
