Russian Prime Minister Mishustin Directs Completion of Crypto Regulation

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin instructed the government to reach a consensus on crypto regulation in the country by December 19, 2022. Mishustin urged authorities to produce coordinated policies on regulating the issuance and circulation of digital currencies in Russia.

Mishustin also asked regulators to finalize regulations for cryptocurrency mining and cross-border transactions in digital currencies.

Last week, Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev reported that the Bank of Russia had agreed with the finance ministry to legalize cryptocurrencies in cross-border payments.

Despite its optimistic stance on allowing cross-border transactions, the Bank of Russia still opposes the legalization of local crypto exchanges and the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment.
