Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly given the green light to a new central bank digital currency (CBDC) bill allowing the launch of the digital ruble. According to the news published in Vedomosti, the bill signed by Putin allows the country's central bank to test the digital currency from next month. Making a statement on the subject, Central Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina emphasised that the use of the digital currency is entirely voluntary and said, "No one will force anyone to use digital rubles. This is a completely voluntary use, this is an additional opportunity for people: they can use it if they want, or not."
