The statue honoring Bitcoin’s anonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto in Lugano, Switzerland, was stolen and thrown into a lake but has since been recovered by city officials.
Recently, unidentified individuals removed the statue, designed by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi to symbolize Nakamoto's anonymity, from its pedestal and tossed it into a nearby lake. Following the disappearance, the gallery that owns the artwork offered a reward of 0.1 BTC (approximately $11,400) for its return. However, since Lugano police recovered the statue, no reward will be given.
A petition has been launched on Change.org calling for the statue to be reinstalled safely, receiving public support from Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino. Satoshigallery has pledged to cover the costs of remaking and reinstalling the statue, provided it is displayed securely.
