SEC Welcomes Crypto-Friendly New Chairman: Official Step Taken!

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Paul Atkins has sworn in as the 34th chairman of the commission.

A long-time supporter of cryptocurrencies, Atkins was nominated by President Donald Trump on January 20 and confirmed by the Senate earlier this month. The new SEC chairman stated that he would focus on advancing efforts to protect investors and strengthening the commission's mission.

Atkins emphasized that creating clear and acceptable regulations for digital assets would be a top priority. This approach marks a departure from former chairman Gary Gensler's "regulation by enforcement" strategy.

Since Gensler's departure in January, the SEC has canceled some controversial accounting guidelines for cryptocurrencies, lifted sanctions on key industry players, and formed a crypto task force to engage experts in open discussions.
