T. Rowe Price Enters Crypto Space With First Active ETF Filing

U.S. investment giant T. Rowe Price has officially stepped into the digital asset market with its first-ever crypto ETF filing.

Founded in 1937 and managing over $1.8 trillion in assets, T. Rowe Price has submitted an S-1 filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its first cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund, the “T. Rowe Price Active Crypto ETF.” The move comes just five years after the firm’s entry into the ETF industry, marking a significant milestone for traditional finance.

The actively managed fund aims to outperform the FTSE Crypto US Listed Index, investing in major digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, Cardano (ADA), Avalanche (AVAX), Litecoin (LTC), Polkadot (DOT), Dogecoin (DOGE), HBAR, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Chainlink (LINK), Stellar (XLM) and Shiba Inu (SHIB).

ETF Store President Nate Geraci noted that “seeing a firm founded in 1937 now building crypto ETF infrastructure is monumental,” adding that many traditional institutions missed the early ETF wave but “don’t plan to repeat that mistake with crypto.” Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas described the filing as “a signal of a new wave of competition in the active crypto ETF space.”

However, the ongoing U.S. government shutdown could delay SEC approvals, as most agency staff remain furloughed. Still, experts say the entry of major traditional firms into the crypto sector clearly shows that digital assets are moving to the heart of global finance.
