Texas Senate Passes Bill to Establish State Bitcoin Reserve!

The state of Texas has approved Senate Bill 21, paving the way for the government to directly purchase and hold Bitcoin (BTC) as part of its official reserves.

State Representative Lee Bratcher stated that if the bill becomes law, Governor Greg Abbott is expected to sign it, noting that Abbott has expressed strong interest in making Texas a leader in Bitcoin, though the final decision rests solely with him.

Following President Trump’s March executive order to create a federal Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, Texas would become the third U.S. state—after New Hampshire and Arizona—to establish a Bitcoin reserve, pending Abbott’s signature. The state plans to start with a cautious investment of several tens of millions of dollars, with final amounts and timing to be determined by state financial auditors.

As a major hub for Bitcoin mining and crypto innovation, Texas’s move aligns with long-standing expectations from its crypto community and further cements its role in the digital asset economy.
