Tensions Rise Between SEC and Democrats Over Crypto Regulation

A major rift has emerged between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Democratic lawmakers following a technical briefing on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY).

Democrats accused SEC officials of failing to answer basic questions and withholding critical information under the guise of confidentiality. The most controversial claim was that the SEC provided written technical materials to Republicans while refusing to share the same with Democrats.

Several Democratic staffers called the briefing the "worst technical assistance session ever," criticizing the SEC's lack of legislative expertise. In response, House Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters sent a detailed letter to SEC Chair Paul Atkins, urging transparency and neutrality in the legislative process. The incident has raised concerns that political friction may further complicate progress on crypto regulation in the U.S.
