Texas Becomes Third U.S. State to Establish a Bitcoin Reserve

Texas, one of the largest states in the U.S., officially signed into law a bill allowing the creation of a public fund for Bitcoin investments, furthering state-level adoption of cryptocurrency.

Governor Greg Abbott's approval makes Texas the third U.S. state to establish a Bitcoin reserve, following Arizona and New Hampshire. Unlike the others, Texas will manage its reserve independently using public funds under the oversight of Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.

Additional legislation (HB 4488) was also enacted, providing special legal protections for the reserve by ensuring it remains separate from general budget transfers. Lee Bratcher, President of the Texas Blockchain Council, estimates that the investment could reach tens of millions of dollars and emphasizes that decisions will be professionally guided by the state comptroller’s assessments.
