Bitcoin (BTC) celebrates its 14th birthday today. Initially perceived as a threat by traditional financial institutions, Bitcoin has become one of the most profitable investments of the internet age with 14 years of community support and an ever-growing user base. Even though the Bitcoin whitepaper was released by Satoshi Nakamoto on Oct. 28, 2008, many consider Jan. 3, 2009 as Bitcoin’s birthday.
Satoshi Nakamoto mined the Genesis Block on Jan. 3, 2009. The Genesis Block is the first block processed in a project’s network.
The first Bitcoin transfer was between Satoshi Nakamoto and Harold Thomas Finney, a software developer at PGP Corporation. And the first financial transaction was made by purchasing 2 pizzas for 10,000 BTC at a local pizza restaurant in Florida, USA.
