Ethereum developers have postponed the Shanghai Hard Fork for about two weeks. Originally scheduled for the end of March, the Shanghai Upgrade is now expected to be deployed within the first two weeks of April. This decision was announced at the Ethereum developers meeting on March 2.
At the meeting, Ethereum developers decided that the Hard Fork will occur after the Goerli testnet launch, which is scheduled for March 14. Tim Beiko, Ethereum core developer and project coordinator, said, “For mainnet we usually want to give people at least two weeks after the announcement… I think the earliest that puts us is like the first week of April, basically.”
The Shanghai Upgrade, also known as Ethereum Improvement Offer (EIP) 4895, is notable for enabling staked ETH withdrawals, a feature that is currently not available on the network. Ethereum developers are also discussing a second Hard Fork to initiate "Proto-danksharding" (EIP 4844). It is planned for Q3 2023 and will further increase the network's capacity to process more transactions.
