Both the Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate have passed a bill to regulate Bitcoin mining activities in the state of Arkansas, and the bill will now be sent to the governor's office for approval.
The bill, dubbed the Arkansas Data Centers Act of 2023, aims to regulate the Bitcoin mining industry in Arkansas, set up guidelines for miners, and protect them from discriminatory regulations and taxes. According to the bill, crypto miners will have the same rights as data centers. The bill states that the Arkansas government should not impose a requirement for a digital asset mining business that is different from any requirement that applies to a data center.
In late March, the Montana Senate passed a bill to protect cryptocurrency miners in the state. In June 2022, a bill banning Bitcoin mining was approved by a majority vote among New York policymakers. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a Proof of Work mining moratorium banning cryptocurrency mining activities in the state for two years. Accordingly, the permits of a mining company in New York that does not use 100% renewable energy will not be renewed for two years and new activities will not be allowed.
