Avalanche has enabled the Cortina upgrade on its mainnet, implementing changes to help optimize the network for developers. The Cortina upgrade included migrating X-Chain to run Snowman++ consensus, which means that the entire network has been moved to a single consensus engine. This change is said to be important for enabling complex X-Chain operations as well as integrating Avalanche Warp Messaging (AWM).
