Trump’s $2,000 Tariff Dividend Plan Could Spark a New Altcoin Bull Run

U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal of “tariff dividend” payments of up to $2,000 could ignite a new bull season in the altcoin market.

In an interview with One America News Network, Trump noted that annual revenues from tariffs could exceed $1 trillion. While most of these funds would be directed toward reducing federal debt, part of it could be distributed to citizens as what he called a “dividend to the American people.” Such a move could ease household budgets and encourage retail investors to shift toward riskier assets, including cryptocurrencies.

A similar effect was seen during the 2020–2021 pandemic stimulus period, when checks distributed to households fueled a massive surge in altcoins. At the time, Bitcoin’s market dominance fell from 73% to 39%, while research by Harvard Kennedy School’s Marco Di Maggio in 2023 confirmed that financial relief programs significantly boosted risk-taking behavior.

Experts, however, warn that the backdrop in 2025 is different. With the crypto market already valued at $4 trillion and U.S. interest rates above 4%, investors may show more caution. Still, if Trump’s initiative becomes reality, a selective yet powerful altcoin rally could be on the horizon.
