US President-elect Donald Trump has announced his nomination of former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton for Attorney General of the Southern District of New York. During his tenure as SEC chairman, Clayton led the DAO Report to regulate the crypto industry and was particularly known for his view that initial coin offerings should be treated as securities. Trump called Clayton “a respected business leader and public servant.”
One of Clayton's last actions at the SEC was to approve an important crypto case that is still under appeal. Clayton, who will replace the current attorney general, will take on this critical role following the financial fraud and corporate misconduct cases filed in the previous term.
