U.S. Mortgage Market Opens Door to Crypto Assets

The U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has instructed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to start preparations for recognizing crypto assets in mortgage evaluations, aligning with President Trump’s vision to establish the U.S. as a crypto-friendly nation.

FHFA Director Bill Pulte announced via social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that, in line with Trump’s goal of turning the U.S. into the "crypto capital," Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are to begin considering cryptocurrencies as reserve assets when assessing single-family mortgage risks. This directive signifies a significant step forward in integrating digital assets into mainstream financial evaluations.

This move underscores the Trump administration's proactive approach towards cryptocurrencies, reflecting the government's determination to position the U.S. as a leading crypto hub. Pulte’s own portfolio, which notably includes substantial holdings in Bitcoin and Solana, further highlights the strategic direction underpinning this policy decision.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, key institutions established by Congress to provide liquidity and stability in the mortgage market, could pave the way for broader acceptance of cryptocurrencies across the U.S. financial landscape through this groundbreaking initiative.
