On November 28, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) issued a statement on the e-hryvnia concept, the main purpose of which is to complement the cash and non-cash forms of the hryvnia and fulfill all the functions of money.
According to Cointelegraph, the NBU said in a statement that it presented the e-hryvnia concept and continues to develop the CBDC project with virtual assets market participants, payment companies and government agencies.
It is learned that NBU is evaluating and developing three possible CBDC options depending on the design and main features.
Oleksii Shaban, Director of the NBU Payment Systems and Innovative Development Department, summarized the following statements in his statement on the subject:
"The development and implementation of the e-hryvnia can be the next step in the evolution of the payment infrastructure of Ukraine. The Ukrainian CBDC could have a positive impact on ensuring economic security and strengthening the monetary sovereignty of the state, as well as e sustainable economic growth"
