Unclaimed ETH From 2016 to Be Used Within the Ethereum Network

Ethereum developer Griff Green announced that a final decision has been made regarding the unclaimed assets recovered following the 2016 The DAO hack. Around 20 percent of the recovered funds were never claimed by their original owners.

While the unclaimed amount was initially estimated at roughly $6 million, its value has grown significantly over time due to the appreciation of crypto assets, reaching an estimated $200 million today. Approximately 70,500 ETH make up the majority of this balance.

The funds will be allocated to a newly established structure called the “The DAO Security Fund,” aimed at strengthening security efforts across the Ethereum ecosystem. In this way, assets left over from one of crypto’s most significant early incidents will be redirected toward improving the network’s long-term resilience.
