A New Era Begins for Ethereum: Biggest Upgrade Since the Merge Enters Testing Phase

Ethereum core developers have accelerated preparations for the Glamsterdam upgrade, which is scheduled to be implemented in 2026. Development teams have begun testing all proposed improvements on dedicated developer networks, marking the final critical phase before the upgrade is deployed to public testnets.

The Glamsterdam upgrade is primarily focused on increasing the Ethereum mainnet’s transaction capacity and overall efficiency. Developers believe the technical changes introduced by the upgrade will provide a foundation for Ethereum’s future growth plans and represent a major milestone in the network’s long-term scaling strategy.

Developer Jayanthi described Glamsterdam as Ethereum’s most ambitious upgrade since The Merge in 2022, when the network transitioned to proof-of-stake. Key features, including ePBS (EIP-7732) and Block-Level Access Lists (EIP-7928), are designed to reduce transaction costs, strengthen network security, and improve the overall user experience.
