The US government has limited options to acquire new Bitcoin without increasing its budget. The most viable methods include selling existing assets or utilizing Bitcoin obtained through criminal and legal proceedings.  

David Sacks, a key figure in US crypto policies known as the Crypto Czar, previously announced that President Donald Trump had signed the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve executive order. According to former Binance Research analyst Kanazawa, there are four main ways the government could continue purchasing Bitcoin without disrupting the budget.  

The first and most apparent method is to continue seizing Bitcoin through legal and criminal processes. However, experts believe this alone may not be enough to meet the government’s reserve goals. Another strong option is for the US to use its gold reserves to purchase Bitcoin. Since the Federal Reserve cannot directly allocate its revenue for Bitcoin purchases, selling gold appears to be the most feasible approach. However, the potential impact of such sales on the gold market remains uncertain.  

Allocating a portion of government revenue for Bitcoin acquisitions is also on the table. Tax revenues, tariffs, and other state funds could be used for this purpose. However, the Department of Commerce has stated that existing trade tariffs will not be included in the plan, reducing the feasibility of this option.  

Another alternative is for the US government to engage in Bitcoin mining using idle computing resources and energy facilities. Some countries, such as Bhutan, have already launched state-backed mining operations. However, with most of Bitcoin's supply already mined, this approach is unlikely to significantly expand the reserve.  

Experts suggest that the government has very few alternatives left to increase its Bitcoin holdings. This uncertainty has sparked further debate over how the US will shape its long-term crypto asset strategy.

Following the Trump administration's announcement of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, the price initially surged but then saw a sharp decline after confirming that no new purchases would be made. Bitcoin first rose 3.7% to $91,250, then dropped 7.5% to $84,480. It is currently trading at $88,100.  

These fluctuations led to $530 million in liquidations, with 152,000 investors affected. While the government's decision not to sell its Bitcoin holdings was initially seen as positive, the lack of plans for additional purchases disappointed investors.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve without incurring any additional costs. The government will retain approximately 200,000 Bitcoins seized from criminal and legal proceedings, ensuring they are not sold but instead preserved as a long-term investment.  

With this move, the U.S. government is embracing Bitcoin’s reputation as “digital gold” and aims to safeguard its holdings. Reports indicate that previous premature sales of Bitcoin by the government resulted in an estimated $17 billion loss. The new policy seeks to prevent similar mistakes while maximizing the value of these assets. Additionally, the Treasury and Commerce Departments are exploring ways to acquire more Bitcoin without imposing extra financial burdens on taxpayers.  

The executive order also includes the establishment of a U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile, which will consist of other cryptocurrencies obtained exclusively through legal seizures.  

As one of Trump’s key campaign promises, this decision reinforces the U.S.'s ambition to strengthen its leadership in the cryptocurrency sector.

Federal Reserve official Waller stated that interest rate cuts could be considered following the March meeting.  

Donald Trump is reportedly considering issuing an executive order tomorrow to establish a Bitcoin reserve. According to Bloomberg, discussions are ongoing about whether the reserve will be formed using seized BTC or through additional purchases.
