Major Security Operation in the Ethereum: 100 North Korean Actors Exposed

The ETH Rangers initiative, launched to strengthen security across the Ethereum ecosystem, drew attention with its final report. Conducted through collaboration between multiple security organizations, the project analyzed threats targeting blockchain projects in detail and raised significant awareness across the industry. Independent researchers were funded to systematically investigate vulnerabilities across the network.

As a result of these efforts, more than $5.8 million worth of digital assets targeted by attackers were either recovered or frozen. Additionally, over 785 security vulnerabilities and user-related abuses were identified and reported, contributing to a safer environment for both developers and users.

One of the most striking findings was the identification of nearly 100 North Korean IT workers who infiltrated Web3 projects using fake identities. Investigations across 53 projects led to the disruption of their activities. Newly developed analysis tools and shared intelligence reports have strengthened the ecosystem’s resilience against malicious actors.
