South Korean Payment Giant to Build Its Own Blockchain Network on Avalanche

NHN KCP has taken a major step toward integrating blockchain technology into its financial operations. Under a memorandum of understanding with Ava Labs, the company plans to launch a dedicated Layer 1 network focused entirely on payment use cases. This network will serve as a foundational infrastructure where applications can run, enabling faster and more secure transactions.

The project will leverage Ava Cloud, a technology that allows enterprises to easily deploy and manage custom blockchain networks. Through this system, NHN KCP aims to deliver sub-second transaction finality, encrypted on-chain data storage, and a customizable payment ecosystem tailored for merchants. The technical feasibility of the initiative will be validated through upcoming pilot tests.

Beyond infrastructure, the collaboration will also explore new financial models such as tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and cross-border payments. CEO Jun-seok Park stated that the partnership will combine payment expertise with advanced blockchain technology to create real-world use cases. The timeline for the network’s launch will largely depend on upcoming cryptocurrency regulations in South Korea.
