Argentina’s state energy company has confirmed that it is evaluating the option of accepting crypto payments for gasoline and diesel purchases. The initiative remains under review with no launch timeline set, but its emergence comes as crypto usage continues to expand rapidly across the country.
The company’s exploration reflects rising interest in alternative payment models within a tightly regulated fuel market. Under the preliminary plan, fuel pricing for crypto payments would be based on widely used “crypto dollar” rates rather than the official exchange rate. Due to this structure, an intermediary platform may be required to handle conversions during the payment process.
Local reports indicate that the company is in talks with potential partners capable of supporting high-volume transactions with fast conversion infrastructure. While no final decision has been made, these discussions point to a possible shift toward integrating digital assets into Argentina’s fuel sector.
