The Genesis Block, also known as Block 0, is the name given to the first block of a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. The blocks created on the blockchain network form the foundation of blockchain technology. Each block on the Bitcoin network is unique. The Genesis Block of Bitcoin, created by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009, was the first block created using proof of work and it began serving as a template for other blocks that would be created on the Bitcoin network.
