Ethereum developers have set May 7 as the target date for the highly anticipated Pectra hard fork, one of the network’s largest software upgrades to date. During a developer call last week, it was announced that following successful tests on the Hoodi testnet, the upgrade is now scheduled to be deployed to the mainnet on that date.
The Pectra update introduces 11 major improvements to the Ethereum network. These include enhancements for more user-friendly wallet experiences, easier account usage, and an increase in the maximum stakeable amount for validators from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. Additionally, the upgrade will boost network scalability by expanding data capacity for rollup technologies.
Although May 7 has been set as the target date, developers noted that unforeseen issues during the testing phase could lead to a delay. Initially planned for the end of April, the upgrade was pushed to early May due to timing adjustments in the testing process.
