U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick announced a major new step to accelerate Bitcoin (BTC) mining and reduce miners' reliance on the public electricity grid.
Under the investment accelerator program launched on March 31, 2025, mining companies will be able to build their own energy facilities and data centers near natural gas fields and other energy sources.
Lutnick emphasized that Bitcoin is viewed as a valuable commodity like gold and oil, rather than as a currency, and noted that Bitcoin could be included in the U.S. national economic accounts.
With the new administration’s supportive stance toward Bitcoin, Lutnick declared that the U.S. has become “a Bitcoin nation” and that there would be no turning back. This move is seen as critical not only for enhancing Bitcoin’s economic value but also for reducing the environmental impact of mining activities.
Recognizing Bitcoin as an official part of its economic strategy could mark a historic turning point for the cryptocurrency industry.
