MetaMask co-founder Dan Finlay has addressed the long-standing speculation surrounding the MASK token, stating that no final decision has been made but the idea is still under consideration.
In an interview with The Block, Finlay emphasized that if a token is ever launched, it will only be announced through the MetaMask wallet itself, and users will be able to access the official link directly from within the app. He also noted that the token would align with Consensys’s strategy of "progressive decentralization."
The idea of a MASK token first surfaced in 2021 and was publicly supported by MetaMask CEO Joseph Lubin, though no concrete steps have been taken since. Finlay warned users to be cautious of scams, urging them not to trust token announcements made via social media or email. With roughly 30 million monthly active users, MetaMask continues to innovate and improve the user experience amid intensifying competition in the crypto wallet space.
