US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. described Bitcoin as an “honest currency” and announced that if elected president, he would call on the federal government to buy Bitcoin. Kennedy stated that Bitcoin reserves should be increased until they match the US's gold reserves worth $615 billion. This would require the US to purchase 9.4 million Bitcoins.
On the other hand, claims that Donald Trump, another presidential candidate who will attend the Bitcoin 2024 conference to be held on July 27, will announce cryptocurrencies as a reserve asset continue to remain on the agenda.
